Victorian Oil Lamp Hand Painted Kero

This hand painted oil lamp was made during the Victorian period, about 1890. The glass font was mold blown with four decorative horizontal rings at the waist. Above and below the rings are hand painted green leaves. The design is on the front and back. The brass base is embossed with classical motifs and has four feet. The burner is not brass, but some other alloy of the same color and is embossed with a coiled ribbon. The glass chimney may be original: there is a small dimple in the bulbous part and a tiny one on the rim. This lamp has been partly modified: two holes have been drilled; one in the inside brass well of the font and another in the oil repository of the burner. The burner itself has been untouched and the metal screw cap that covers the fill hole is present. This lamp could be further modified for electricity, the two holes patched for use as an oil lamp, or left alone for use as decoration only. Height without chimney: 10 5/8 in.; height with chimney: 18 in.
