Salt Cellars, Made in Italy, 1970's, Certificate, 2 spoons, Swans 3.25"x3.25"x1", Spoons 2.75" long, Crystal bodies, Silver plated necks, head, wings. Beautiful deep red original box from Bugatti. Italy embossed.
* Salt Cellars originated in Greece. They were replaced by salt shakers. The term, "sit behind the salt," was the most important place to sit. Recommended to use a coarse salt or kosher salt. They were considered a status symbol and looked quite elegant on the table setting.
These salt cellars have sat in a box, stored and are unused although they have been opened and admired. They are stiff from not being used and I have read that they need to be oiled with mineral oil. For their best appearance, they could use a light and gentle polishing. They are just a really cool piece of history.
