Have a stealth mode where you can remain unseen and they also have a amplify mode where there is a very light red light but you could see further since that mode and amplifies the infrared signal. These work great they are not military grade they're great for camping or any outdoor night activities excellent for night paintball. You can see pretty well and pitch black darkness the visual is about a hundred feet more or less they take five standard AA batteries the better quality battery you use the better quality image I would recommend rechargeable batteries intended for cameras that are AA
