Historical blue transferware plate enoch wood and sons, burslem, 1819-1846

An uncommon Lafayette commemorative Plate made at the time of his return visit to America. This plate by Staffordshire potters E. Wood & Sons, with their mark of 1818 to 1840 was made at the time of his return visit to America in 1824. The stamped blue title on the back reads; "La Grange the Residence of the Marquis Lafayette" He would have preferred that it say General. The figures in the foreground are the General, his wife, and one daughter. Good deep blue and good condition.

10.25 inch diameter

Decorated with "La Grange te Residence of the Marquis Lafayette," within a fruit and flower border, impressed mark.
