Vintage/Antique Cigarette Case? #469

This is a small case, I have to assume it either held dancing cards or cigarettes, although I'm not sure which. This does have a pendant link. Piece is marked Elgin AM MFG Co, sterling silver and 14K gold, pendant - piece weighs 29.9 grams. This piece has not been cleaned, any polishing could remove thin layers of gold.
