Zenith Betamax VR9800 Video Player / Recorder & VRT9850 Tuner / Timer w Tape

The VR9800 is the primary video cassette recorder/player, while the VRT9850 is a separate tuner/timer unit designed to enhance functionality. The tuner allows for programmed recordings of TV broadcasts, a significant feature in the early 1980s when scheduled recording was a novel convenience. The stacked unit's compact design (approximately 12 x 8.5 x 6.5 inches) made it a practical home entertainment solution.

A relic of the Betamax vs. VHS format war, where Betamax ultimately lost due to VHS's longer recording times. Its association with this pivotal moment in consumer electronics history makes it a significant artifact for media historians and retro tech enthusiasts.
