Up for sale is a vintage, likely near antique, Marshall Wells Hardware Company backpack. It measures approximately 24" wide, 22" tall

It appears to date from approximately the 1930's or earlier. "Skookum" is Pacific Northwest Chinook jargon for a person who is strong, brave, hard working, or "monstrously significant." Marshall Wells seems to have begun activity in the Canadian Northwest (and Oregon) in the 1890's to early 1900's, so that would likely suggest the earliest possible date for the piece.

Condition issues: This is essentially a conversation or decorative piece at this stage. There's numerous staining, one of the leather straps is missing several inches of length, the leather mount point at the shoulder straps has stitching which has become separated from the canvas as seen. It's an unrestored piece, showing age and patina throughout. This is a real barn find!G
