Oscar de la Renta was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in 1932. 
He trained under Cristóbal Balenciaga and Antonio del Castillo before establishing his own New York-based company. He was known for his elegant designs, incorporating old-world craftsmanship with a modern aesthetic and distinctive Latin flair. 
De la Renta was a prominent figure in American fashion, serving as president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and receiving numerous awards, including the CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award. He passed away in 2014.
